Currently in the process of completing a darkly comic novel on the theme of Cinema.
It’s rife with reflections of manifold aspects of our current culture and situation, but also hopefully enduring.
I’ve always had trouble describing my own writing, but this attempt I wrote the other day seems alright. Maybe as I’d had so much practice writing other ‘synopses.’
This Month on the Home Binge Office
An earnest and absurd paean to Cinema, and maybe the definitive literary work on the theme, this darkly comic narrative takes the form of increasingly intricate, ridiculous, and humorous movie descriptions on a streaming website—from the lofty to the lowbrow, art house to grindhouse, very earliest cinema to the present day. Soon one understands that the Synopsist finds themself, err—not to give away ‘spoilers’—in a certain preposterous predicament. At once an ecstatic and unfettered work of fiction, indirect questioning of contemporary media habits, and existential exploration. Reminiscent of Beckett, Pinter, Woody Allen’s short stories (‘cuz, you know, he’s so popular now), Dorothy Parker’s acerbic wit, and the author.
